Your new company

Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering exclusively with a successful and international legal group to recruit a dynamic and experienced Full-time Or Part-time Trust & Tax Manager based in their Cheltenham, Gloucestershire office. Working with the firm's private clients and a range of partners within the Tax, Trust & Succession group, within a friendly collegiate team, with the opportunity for future career development and to really add value via expertise/knowledge. The successful candidate will develop broad experience in trust/estate administration and tax advice, whilst developing a more specialised expertise in the type of work that the team's core client base requires. Open to finance professionals with personal tax experience and an understanding of preparing accounts, but also open to accountants from practice who want to learn/develop into this role with an interest in Trust accounting.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve overseeing and contributing towards the timely preparation of trust accounts and tax returns, including inheritance tax returns, and dealing with HM Revenue and Customs as required. Calculating trustees' liabilities to IHT, CGT and Income Tax, and making use of annual exemptions, along with dealing with payments and distributions from trusts, both capital and discretionary income distributions. You will manage your own caseload, client relationships and engage with all those that may be involved, proactively managing your clients to ensure any tax-planning and/or succession planning issues are considered, along with preparing/attending trustee's meetings. You will activate investment reviews, monitor the performance of investments, prepare/review investment policy statements, and manage relationships to deal with beneficiaries, drafting deeds, and associated policies. You will review/interpret trust deeds and related documentation, and delegate/supervise the work of more junior members of the team.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this hands-on Trust & Tax Manager role, you will ideally need experience in a similar position, an understanding of trust accounts, taxation of trusts, income tax, and ideally have experience with computerised accounts along with Trust/Tax software. You will be a proactive team player, who is also highly self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative. Possess excellent team working skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues of all levels, including mentoring and guiding less experienced members of the team as required, along with being able to build rapport with clients to develop effective working relationships. You will have a good legal and commercial understanding of clients' needs, take a hands-on working approach, with strong problem-solving skills. Experience within the Legal sector and a STEP qualification would be advantageous but not essential.

The role is open to Accountants from practice with an interest in trust accounting as well as experienced Personal Tax Accountants with an understanding of preparing accounts trusts.
