Our client is an independent family business who have been an extremely popular Garden Centre and Restaurant since 1991. As an ever-growing company based in the Chichester area, they are now looking to add to their current workforce by recruiting for an experienced and knowledgeable Assistant Manager for their plant area.

You will be responsible for: -路Driving the selling activity for plants, pots, compost and landscaping ranges

路Managing the incoming stock, getting it out swiftly and presenting it well to sell quickly

路Assisting with the management of the external team to ensure they all perform to a high standard

路Ensure the team have appropriate work lists and achieve what is expected

路Ensuring all members of the team are highly productive and fully occupied at all times

路Conducting the necessary staff coaching and training to develop the individuals

路Ensuring all staff present themselves in a Company uniform and PPE at all times

路Managing daily breaks and lunches to ensure external area sales cover

路Ensuring the quality of all the stock within the department is maintained and rotated

路Ensuring the stock is maintained in a clean, tidy, healthy, weed-free and undamaged state

路To monitor off-take from reserves and respond to looking good and availability lists

路The preparation of orders for stock to meet the expected level of trade

路To merchandise and display stock according to the agreed principles

路Undertaking stock takes

路To request point of sale material and put it out to ensure all displays are fully supported

路Proactively serving and helping customers in need of assistance, resolving queries / complaints

路To actively sell other goods encouraging link sales and up-sales wherever possible

路To offer specific service and advice to customers on all gardening related enquiries

路To take and process customer orders and then advise customers on receipt of the goods

路To be responsible for opening and closing the centre as needed

路To perform the role of Deputy Manager when on rota to do so (see separate job description)

Skills and Experience

路Previous experience of working in a garden centre is preferred

路Ideally you will hold at least a Level 2 Horticulture qualification

路You will hold a current licence or have experience of operating a Counterbalance Forklift

路First Aid certificate
