Role Overview:
The successful Social Worker will manage a comprehensive caseload for young people under the age of 18. This role involves working in close partnership with the Local Authority, parents and carers, the MASH Team, Social Services, and various external agencies. The Social Worker will ensure all work is carried out in adherence to the West Berkshire Council Framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a diverse and complex caseload of young people under the age of 18.
- Conduct thorough assessments of children's needs and risks.
- Develop and implement effective care plans in collaboration with families and relevant agencies.
- Work in partnership with the Local Authority, Parents & carers, the MASH Team, Social Services and external agencies involved with the young person.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with West Berkshire Council policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present reports for court and other meetings.
- Represent the Local Authority in court proceedings, as required.
- Work within the West Berkshire Council Framework, adhering to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training.
- Contribute to the development of services and best practice.
- Cover areas such as Thatcham, Newbury, Farnborough, and any other areas which fall under West Berkshire Council.
Candidate Requirements:
- Must hold a valid Social Worker qualification
- Registration with Social Work England (not essential)
- Demonstrable experience of working as a Social Worker, preferably within a children and families setting.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and other relevant legal frameworks.
- A strong understanding of child protection and the regulations which fall under this.
- Strong assessment, planning, intervention, and review skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage a demanding workload.
- Resilience and the ability to work in challenging situations.
- A commitment to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children.
- Must hold a full UK driving license and have access to a car.
- Ability to attend meetings in West Berkshire and outside of the area if required.
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
