AREA OPERATIONS MANAGER

Annual Salary - £44,000 - £50,000 plus £6,500 car allowance and annual performance bonus

The role is regional based covering sites in the Midlands Coalville, Warrington, Leeds, Darlington and Bury St Edmunds on a full-time permanent basis. As the Area Operations Manager, you will lead a Branch operations teams to deliver exceptional customer service while optimising costs to drive growth and achieve financial objectives outlined in the operating plan. You will foster a culture of continuous improvement in service delivery, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement, ensuring all operational activities align with industry standards and best practices.

Day to Day Duties

  • Establish and nurture company culture by effectively leading Branch Operations Managers and Warehouse Supervisors 
  • Drive consistent working practices and daily routines for yourself and your Branch Operations Managers to achieve at least 95% on-time service delivery to customers.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyse performance results, identify root causes of issues, and collaboratively define action plans with Branch Managers during daily performance reviews. Present weekly updates on key operational metrics and deliver actionable insights to the Head of Distribution.
  • Compliance & Standards: Monitor all operational activities against company standards, regulatory requirements, and customer contracts. Conduct field audits to achieve 100% compliance.
  • Cost Management: Control operational costs to improve cost while driving revenue growth. Manage courier and temporary labor needs, ensuring costs align with productivity forecasts.
  • Procurement Oversight: Lead end-to-end Purchase Order management to support accurate cost accruals in the operating plan. Ensure POs are raised promptly to enable precise financial reporting.
  • Route Efficiency: Collaborate with the Central Planning team to optimize route efficiency in line with performance metrics and operational goals.

Essential Skills

  • Proven ability to manage complex management information and drive process improvements.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with a clear understanding of the company’s operational processes and financial objectives.
  • Familiarity with the Branch customer base and associated geographies.
  • A strong commitment to delivering exceptional service to both customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks effectively and work under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt working hours to maximise strategic opportunities.
  • Occasional travel and overnight stays may be required.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in service management within the UK logistics market is preferred.
