Keeping our employees safe is the number one priority for our organisation. The role of the regional Health & Safety Lead plays a key role in achieving this across our on-site Solutions network. Your role will be to manage and hold our Plant Leaders accountable for all Health, Safety and Wellbeing activities.


Our 10 operations are spread throughout the UK at customer locations where we manage our pallets at the customers site. Our teams repair and prepare our pallets to go back into the supply chain for re-use. This is an operational environment, so someone with experience in a hands-on manufacturing, production or distribution sectors. A successful candidate will be open to travelling to sites, interfacing with the shopfloor and can demonstrate the ability to challenge, influence and engage all levels of the operation.


Key responsibilities

  • Provide an environment where work-related health and safety risks are controlled to prevent injuries and occupational ill health.
  • Comply with all legal and other applicable occupational health & safety requirements including internal processes such as: o 1-CHEP OSH&E Systems o Gap Audits & Action Plans
  • Management Observation Tours & Observation System. iCare system update and monitor quality timely data
  • Lead and develop our Safety Differently philosophy across the whole network through BASFR and Learning Teams.
  • Ensure all employees, at every level of the organisation understand and are committed to implementing CHEPs Zero Harm policies and practices.
  • Lead and monitor continuous improvement via systemic change based on data and root cause analysis of incidents, near misses and environmental occurrences
  • Lead and promote Zero Harm discussions across the network, ensuring the participation of employees and the Site Leadership team through bi monthly Zero harm meetings
  • Develop employee occupational health & safety competencies through effective training across all levels of the network.
  • Lead and facilitate all root cause investigations on all incidents and serious near miss reports to prevent recurrence. Learn from these investigations and share good practice across the European/Global Plant network.
  • Monitor and ensure all location staff are covered by the annual Occupational Health assessments and that any follow up recommendations are met
  • Monitor supervisory techniques on Health Safety and environment issues via MOT
  • Keep up to date with all internal and external health, safety & wellbeing legislation. Advise the OSS Leadership team of any changes to health & safety standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in our Zero Harm practices within the OSS Network and across the Plant network through good practice sharing.
  • Lead our employee wellbeing initiatives across the OSS network including, safety week, occupational health assessments and other CHEP employee wellbeing initiatives

What youll need;

  • Ideally, youll be NEBOSH General qualified
  • Driving license
  • Good knowledge of relevant national Health, Safety & Wellbeing laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills, to effectively engage and influence within the business at all levels
  • Motivated individual and self-starter
  • Good knowledge of HSE management systems
  • Analytical skills to understand and interpret data
  • Ability to work well under pressure whilst demonstrating strong organisational skills
