Dorchester Young People’s Service opened its doors in August 2017. Based in Fordington, Dorchester, the service provides accommodation and tailored support to for a young person to acquire Independent Living skills. Your role will include signposting to statutory and non-statutory services which specialise in fields such as education, housing, training & employment, health (physical and emotional) debt management, gender identity, sexuality, and any other identified by the resident as being important to them.

We’re now looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Support Worker (Coach) to deliver person-centred, strengths-based support to our residents, helping them to achieve and become as independent as possible.

You will manage a caseload of customers through their journey, enabling them to articulate their aspirations and realise their potential. You will manage referrals into the service, undertake interviews and assessments and notify potential customers of the outcomes of these activities. You will also induct new customers into the service and deliver quality, outcome focused support sessions in both one-to-one sessions and group sessions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
  • Have a genuine desire and passion to work with vulnerable young people with support needs.
  • Willingness to learn on the job is of primary importance.
  • Have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to work under pressure, using your own initiative.
  • Be able to work positively and creatively.
  • Be IT literate, comfortable working with Microsoft Office packages.

Previous experience would be useful but is by no means essential. Knowledge of housing and benefits advice is also desirable.

Appointment to this role will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check, satisfactory references and possession of a valid Right to Work document.
