About the Role

As a Personal Advisor working at Dorset Council, you will support young people aged between 16 and 25 years going through the asylum process. You will be working collaboratively with

all partners to identify and meet individual's needs, assisting young people to participate in pathway

planning to ensure that their plans properly reflect their individual strengths, aspirations and needs.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide advice and guidance to young people aged 16 to 25 going through the asylum process.
  • Deliver a full range of statutory responsibilities under the Leaving Care Act 2000.
  • Work collaboratively with various partners, including solicitors and the Home Office, to support young people's needs.
  • Support young people in pathway planning and help them achieve their goals, addressing their unique strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct home visits, community work, and meetings in Council offices, with occasional remote work.
  • Travel as required across the UK to attend meetings, liaise with agencies, and provide support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering high-quality services to young people, families, or other vulnerable individuals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, including the Leaving Care Act 2000, and issues affecting young people leaving care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing circumstances, and respond appropriately.
  • Strong communication skills and a creative, solution-oriented approach.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in IT to support case management and record-keeping.
  • A valid driving license and access to a vehicle suitable for travel locally and nationally, as required by the role.
  • The position is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
