Service Care solutions are working with the Scottish Government who areseeking a highly skilled family Solicitor to join the CERID team for a 6-month contract. This role involves providing expert legal advice and drafting legislation for SG Policy Clients on crucial matters concerning children and young people. The position focuses on various policies, including historical child abuse redress, child protection, youth justice, and children's rights and well-being. Manager is open to a Solicitorin the absence of child law experience he would still consider a Solicitor if they have public law experience (e.g. a candidate with a bit of post qualifying experience who had worked in a public sector/public law background).


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice relating to policies impacting children and young people.
  • Draft legislation pertaining to redress for historical child abuse in care, looked after children, and youth justice.
  • Support the implementation of The Promise, an Independent Review of the Scottish care system.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure a sound understanding of public and administrative law in Scotland.
  • Communicate complex legal issues clearly and effectively to both colleagues and stakeholders.
Key Requirements:
  • A thorough understanding of public and administrative law in Scotland. Currently a Practising Solicitor, registered with the Law Society of Scotland.
  • Strong ability to manage and interpret data to support decision-making processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • An organisedapproach to workload management, adapting to varied priorities as needed.
