Job Title: Senior Payroll & Bookkeeper

Location: Epsom, Surrey

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm (1-hour lunch break)

Hybrid Working: Available (up to two days working from home per week after the probationary period)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Payroll & Bookkeeper to join an accountancy practice, based in Epsom, Surrey. This full-time role involves handling both payroll and bookkeeping responsibilities for clients, ensuring accurate and timely processing. The successful candidate will be confident in working with numbers, have strong attention to detail, and demonstrate professionalism in managing confidential information.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll:

  • Prepare and process payroll for clients on a regular basis
  • Accurately input payroll data into payroll software
  • Deduct tax and national insurance payments
  • Calculate statutory payments including Maternity, Shared Parental, Paternity, and Sick Pay
  • Process holiday, sick leave, maternity pay, and expenses
  • Manage overtime, shift payments, and pay increases
  • Issue P45s and other relevant tax forms
  • Deal with HMRC matters, ensuring compliance
  • Process auto-enrolment pension deductions
  • Maintain real-time payroll reporting
  • Ensure confidentiality and data protection at all times

Bookkeeping:

  • Perform general bookkeeping duties using Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure deadlines are met
  • Assist with VAT returns and other compliance-related tasks
  • Support clients with Xero and other accounting software
  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts
Requirements

It is essential that you have accountancy practice experience plus the following:

  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Strong sense of honesty and integrity

  • Good IT skills, including proficiency in payroll and accounting software
