A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Gardener & Housekeeper couple to join a beautiful private estate in Devon. The successful couple will take on complementary roles, ensuring both the gardens and household are maintained to the highest standard. The ideal candidates will be experienced, proactive, and adaptable, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for maintaining a well-run estate.
The Gardener will be responsible for the care and upkeep of the extensive gardens and grounds. Their duties will include planting, pruning, mowing, hedge maintenance, pest control, and greenhouse management, ensuring the estate’s outdoor spaces remain pristine and thriving throughout the seasons. They will also liaise with external contractors and work closely with the principal to develop and implement horticultural plans. Additionally, they will ensure the estate’s gardening equipment and machinery are well-maintained and efficiently operated.
The Housekeeper will take charge of the household, ensuring it is impeccably clean, organised, and well-managed. Their responsibilities will include daily housekeeping, laundry and wardrobe care, food preparation, and general household organisation. They will assist with packing and unpacking for travel, running errands, managing household supplies, and liaising with external contractors. The Housekeeper will also assist with pet care for two dogs, and oversee the general upkeep of the property, ensuring the home is always guest-ready.
This is a full-time, live-in position, with a schedule of Thursday - Monday, receiving Tuesday and Wednesday off together. Accommodation is provided in a private 2-bedroom house on-site, making this an ideal role for a couple looking for a long-term position in a stunning countryside setting.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
Head Gardener:
- General garden and grounds maintenance
- Cultivating and harvesting fruit and vegetables for estate use, managing crop rotation and soil health
- Coordinating external contractors, and seasonal workers
- Maintaining and servicing garden tools, machinery, and equipment
- Supporting the principal with garden planning, new plantings, and horticultural improvements
- Liaising with the household team to ensure fresh produce is available for use
Housekeeper:
- Cleaning, tidying, and maintaining all areas of the home
- Laundry and wardrobe care, including packing and unpacking for travel
- Preparing the house for family visits and guests
- Looking after the family and helping to make their stays as enjoyable and easy as possible
- Assisting with food preparation and occasional menu planning with the chef
- Running errands, managing household supplies, and liaising with external contractors
- Pet care
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Experience working together in a similar private household setting
- Strong skills in housekeeping, gardening, estate maintenance, and household management
- A proactive and hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small household team
- Full, clean UK driving licences, preferably for both individuals
- Discretion, reliability, and flexibility
