Overview:

Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor with a strong presence across the Central Belt of Scotland. We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Site Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of various infrastructure projects, including roads, drainage, utilities, and more, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Management & Supervision:
    Oversee day-to-day operations on site, ensuring that work is carried out according to specifications, drawings, and safety regulations. Supervise subcontractors and labourers to ensure productivity and adherence to quality standards.

  • Setting Out:
    Carry out precise setting out and levelling for the works.

  • Technical Support:
    Provide technical advice and support to the site team, including the interpretation of design drawings and specifications. Resolve any engineering issues or challenges that arise during the construction phase.

  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    Ensure that all works on site are carried out in compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and ensure site risks are mitigated.

  • Quality Control:
    Monitor and verify the quality of work carried out, ensuring compliance with project specifications, design standards, and regulatory requirements. Assist in conducting inspections and ensuring appropriate testing is carried out.

  • Progress Monitoring:
    Track project progress and report regularly to the Site Manager and Project Manager. Provide input into programme planning and help identify potential delays or issues early on to keep the project on track.

  • Documenting & Reporting:
    Maintain accurate records of work undertaken, including daily reports, time sheets, materials usage, and incident reports. Prepare and submit site documentation such as RFI's (Requests for Information) and Method Statements.

  • Stakeholder Communication:
    Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and local authorities as required, ensuring clear and effective communication on project progress, issues, and solutions.



Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Site Engineer within the civil engineering sector, ideally with experience on infrastructure, roads, drainage, and utilities projects.

  • Technical Expertise:
    Proficiency in using surveying equipment.

  • Knowledge of Regulations:
    Strong understanding of construction health and safety regulations and the ability to enforce them on site.

  • Communication Skills:
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    Ability to think critically and solve engineering challenges in real-time, adapting to changes and addressing issues proactively.

  • Full Driving License:
    A valid UK driving license, as the role involves travel across the Central Belt of Scotland.



Desirable Attributes:

  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE) or working towards chartership.

  • Experience working in a contractor environment across multiple disciplines.

  • Knowledge of relevant construction standards and local authority processes within Scotland.
