About the Job:

As a member of the County Council’s Legal Team, you will provide high-quality legal services with a specific focus on childcare law. You will handle a range of childcare cases and represent the Council in court at least once a month. This is a crucial role requiring expertise in family and childcare law, legal advice, and effective advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal advice and representation on childcare law matters.
  • Attend court hearings at least once a month, representing the Council in complex and contested hearings.
  • Develop and deliver training to council officers and members, and produce advice bulletins and guidance notes related to childcare legal matters.
  • Identify opportunities to generate income for the Legal Services team.
  • Represent the Council in legal matters involving children’s services, fostering, and adoption.
  • Attend meetings, inquiries, and discussions with other legal professionals to advocate for the Council's position on childcare matters.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the Council’s childcare legal services.
Special Conditions:
  • Travel may be required outside the office, including regular attendance at court hearings.
  • Flexibility in working hours is expected, with occasional work beyond regular hours to meet service needs.
  • Work for other clients, including external childcare services, as part of income-generating initiatives.
The Ideal Candidate:Experience:
  • Substantial experience in childcare law, including advocacy in court, particularly in cases involving children’s services.
  • Previous experience of working in local government or with public-sector clients is highly desirable.
