Madisons Recruitment are recruiting for a Commercial Resource (Highways) on a permanent basis for a client of ours located in Chelmsford.

Working as part of the commercial team, you’ll assist in managing costs, contracts, and financial reporting for a range of highway maintenance and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of commercial processes in the civil engineering or highways sector who is looking to grow within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and control of project budgets for highways works
  • Support commercial processes across drainage, kerbing, resurfacing, and footway schemes
  • Carry out cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting for active sites
  • Help prepare and submit interim and final applications for payment
  • Assist with subcontractor procurement, onboarding, and valuation management
  • Maintain accurate records of contractual documentation and correspondence
  • Contribute to change management processes, identifying variations and potential commercial risks
  • Liaise with site teams to ensure alignment between operational progress and commercial reporting
  • Support in preparing internal cost/value reconciliation reports and client-facing documentation

Requirements

  • Qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior experience in a commercial support role, preferably within the highways or infrastructure sector
  • Familiarity with standard highways contracts (e.g., NEC, Schedule of Rates, Term Maintenance Contracts)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and cost reporting skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities
  • Ability to work across multiple sites and adapt to varying project needs
  • Understanding of health, safety, and compliance standards within highways delivery
