Join our clients Smart Infrastructure Division as a Principal Design Engineer!
This position involves working on the National Grid 5-Year Light Current Framework, providing robust systems with the latest technology on new National Grid substations and extending existing infrastructure. A safer and lower carbon project delivery footprint will be adopted.
Location: This role allows you to be based anywhere in the UK, with the option to work remotely and occasional travel to meet your team at the Hebburn office. Initially, you will need to be present at the Hebburn office for 2-3 days per week during the training phase.

How You Will Make an Impact:
You will lead the successful delivery of transmission protection and control systems for our end customers across various domains and disciplines. You will support the protection engineering team by mentoring and coaching members to aid their professional development. Your responsibilities will include optimizing delivery processes to ensure efficient project completion within scope and deadlines, and providing innovative solutions as the technical lead for protection and control on the UK Transmission and Distribution network.
- Ensure solutions are compliant with the latest policies and standards.
- Deliver high-level customer service and maintain the highest quality standards.
- Apply strong problem-solving, fault-finding, and analytical thinking skills.
- Provide technical input for Sales, Proposals, and Operations departments.
What Skills and Experience You Will Bring:
- Application of protection systems on the National Grid transmission network.
- NG CDAE experience.
- TP141 Settings knowledge is beneficial but not essential.
- Strong understanding of design processes, including circuit diagrams, interface diagrams, cubicle design, settings, and testing FAT.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software tools for design, simulation, and testing; SIPROTEC/DIGSI knowledge is a plus.
- Experience working with National Grid as a direct customer or EPC customers, providing protection solutions for brownfield extensions or greenfield builds.
- Excellent communication skills for effective coordination between teams and customers.
- A minimum qualification of HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, with extensive experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
