Job Title: Claims Defence Solicitor/Hybrid

Location: Leicester or Birmingham

Type: Full-Time, Flexible Work Patterns Hybrid – 3 days a week working from home

My client is a Top Legal 200 firm and is seeking a skilled and motivated Claims Defence Solicitor (NQ to 2 years PQE) to join its Local Government Practice, based in Leicester to begin with, but after an initial period the successful applicant could work in Birmingham or Leicester. This position offers the opportunity to manage your own caseload, whilst also supporting senior fee earners on more complex matters. Acting on behalf of local authorities and their insurers, the successful candidate will work on a variety of pre-litigated and litigated claims. 

The Role

You will be dealing with cases comprised of:

• Highways Law
• Occupiers' Liability
• Employers' Liability
• Housing Disrepair

There will also be opportunities to assist with cases involving:

• Data breaches
• Human rights and the Equality Act
• Subsidence and flooding claims

Your Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and investigations, draft pleadings and prepare cases for trial
• Draft witness statements and other legal documents
• Attend conferences and court hearings
• Communicate effectively with clients, Counsel and other stakeholders
• Meet financial and chargeable targets
• Participate in business development activities and work collaboratively within the team 

About You

• You will have previous claims-handling experience and a strong interest in this area of law
• Flexibility and adaptability are key, as the role involves handling a variety of legal matters

Key Requirements

• NQ to 2 years PQE
• Experience in defending litigated claims is preferred, though candidates with Claimant litigation experience will also be considered
• Strong knowledge of CPR and litigation procedures
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence key decision-makers
• Strong IT skills and attention to detail
• Effective time management and organisational skills
• Flexible approach to work and willingness to travel when necessary
