Location: Letchworth Garden City

To provide a cost effective and high quality legal service to the Council and external clients in relation to property law, commercial, associated matters and other areas of legal work undertaken by the District Council. The responsibilities and functions set out below apply to the Council as well as any legal work undertaken for external clients and the context shall be interpreted and construed accordingly.

Responsibilities:

  • To effectively conduct a case load of property matters and a mix of other matters in one or more of the other areas of legal work undertaken by the District Council and in the context of legislation and best practice relevant to Local Government and the public sector.
  • undertake research to assist the other lawyers in the team to provide advice to the Council
  • Being the Council’s negotiator on the legal aspects of property transactions
  • Drafting leases, overage agreements, wayleaves, licences, contracts for property disposal/development and dealing with all matters ancillary thereto including lease renewals, enquiries, rights of way, searches, charges, investigation of title and registration
  • To have conduct of matters relating to assets of community value, charitable trusts and property trust work generally.
  • To attend client liaison meetings and corporate group meetings
  • Advocacy in contested cases in the Magistrates or County Court or representation in property dispute arbitration
