Temporary Assistant Finance Officer

We are inviting applications for the role of Assistant Finance Officer to support our school’s financial operations. This role is integral to the management and maintenance of the school’s financial system and requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with all statutory responsibilities.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Maintain and operate computerised financial systems, ensuring accurate records and perform reconciliations.
  • Check receipt of goods against delivery notes/invoices and assist with the school’s purchasing policy.
  • Issue fee invoices, collect fees and dinner monies, and monitor late and unpaid payments.
  • Operate the computerised system (FMS, SIMS Accounts and Novus) for ordering goods and services, deliveries, and authorisation of invoices.
  • Process payment of invoices in liaison with suppliers as necessary.
  • Maintain an effective filing system for financial records, including archives for statutory purposes.
  • Raise invoices and collect monies for various school services.
  • Ensure safekeeping of monies, including petty cash, and assist with account reconciliations.
  • Handle day-to-day queries from suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with purchase ordering, check receipt of goods and invoices for payment.
  • Undertake photocopying, filing, and general office duties as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in a financial role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Proficiency in computerised financial systems such as Novus, FMS and SIMS Accounts.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to handle queries effectively.
  • Commitment to the school’s inclusive ethos and equal opportunities.
Working Relationships:
  • Report directly to the Assistant School Business Manager.
  • Collaborate with all members of the Schools and Children’s Centre staff.
  • Liaise with Local Authority Officers and Inspectors.
  • Engage with all staff, Parents and Carers, children, and visitors to the Centre.
  • Work with other external agencies of the Council.
