The purpose of the role of Membership Sales Manager is to lead the development, implementation and analysis of the sales strategy to successfully drive sustainable membership growth for by acquiring new individual members and building relationships with companies to secure group membership subscriptions.

Job tasks

  • Develop the annual plan for member recruitment activity and be responsible for achieving membership volume and revenue targets as per our growth plans.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies to identify and acquire new members.
  • Build and nurture a robust pipeline of potential members through targeted outreach and networking.
  • Secure large membership subscriptions
    • Cultivating strong relationships with key decision makers within targeted companies.
    • Working closely with the Marketing Manager to create compelling value propositions for large membership packages.
    • Successfully negotiating and securing agreements with target companies for large-scale membership subscriptions.
  • Developing relationships with new business leads
  • Develop, implement and maintain a robust lead nurturing strategy to drive conversions.
  • Represent the organisation as an exhibitor or delegate at key industry events to generate new leads and promote the benefits of membership
  • Work with the Partnerships Manager to exploit opportunities for promoting membership among network
  • Attending virtual and face to face meetings with existing and potential customers and conducting presentations or workshops to promote the benefits of membership
  • Meet new members to understand their needs and highlighting benefits of joining
  • Identify new opportunities and nurture leads through the pipeline funnel via various activities and campaigns. This will include working closely with our Membership and Marketing team for lead generation and pipeline building.
  • Own and manage all prospect data, tracking growth using the CRM system.
  • Generate monthly membership growth reports.
  • Oversee delivery of marketing communications for membership acquisition campaigns, ensuring brand and tone of voice are adhered to
  • Oversee all membership growth communications ensuring copy is well crafted and compelling and that visual identity guidelines are always adhered to

Person Specification:

  • Proven experience in a business development, sales or relationship management role for a Membership Organisation.
  • Proven ability to consistently generate new business and successfully secure sales.
  • Experience in developing and implementing effective sales strategies and plans to achieve long-term, sustainable growth.
  • Exceptional inter-personal skills, with strong relationship building and networking capabilities.
  • Experience using CRM software and other sales tools to build and maintain new business pipelines and support account management services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate value propositions, develop and deliver compelling presentations, and negotiate effectively.
  • Confidence in cold calling, cold outreach and networking to generate and nurture new leads.
  • Ability to deeply understand customer needs and tailor compelling, high-value solutions to meet those needs.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet and exceed targets.
  • The ability to adapt in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adjusting strategies as needed to respond to market changes and challenges.
  • A growth mindset, with an openness to continual learning, trying new things and adjusting approaches as needed to achieve results.
  • Act professionally at all times and serve as a positive ambassador for the organisation
