Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking a lead role in the planned and responsive maintenance of footways, drainage, and carriageways
  • Managing projects funded through new developments, such as section 106 and section 278 agreements
  • Overseeing externally funded highway works and regeneration streetscape projects
  • Providing specialist technical overview and design of highway works programmes
  • Commissioning and managing professional design services and highway works contracts
  • Ensuring effective performance management and strategic leadership within the team
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including Transport for London, GLA, and developers
  • Preparing reports on complex issues for senior management and council committees


Job Requirements:

  • Significant experience in highway engineering and maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of highway, transport, and safety legislation
  • Technical expertise in highway engineering principles and methodologies
  • Proficiency in project and contract management
  • Experience in the use of IT, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation packages
  • Exceptional report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with external organisations and stakeholders
  • Relevant qualification in engineering or a related field
