Head of Finance | TV and Film Production | London/Remote

The Client

Harmonic is excited to be working on a retained basis with an SME in the TV and Film production space. Our client has produced hit shows for the likes of Sky and the BBC. Lead by Emmy and BAFTA winning creatives, this business is making a name for themselves thanks to their incredible work in TV and Film production in the scripted drama space.

With multiple projects upcoming and an exciting plan for more commissions in their pipeline, you'd be joining the team during an incredibly exciting time.

The Role

As Head of Finance, you'll serve as the most senior professional in the business looking after the department. You'll oversee the work of one junior accountant and business partner closely with the Founders and creatives at the forefront of their new work.

This is an all-around role, suited for candidates with both corporate and production experience. Your main responsibilities will include supporting with strategic financial decision making, leading the corporate and monthly/yearly reporting processes, overseeing production cost and spend, budgeting and forecasting based on cashflow analysis, and managing tax for the business. This role is ideal for someone really keen to get their hands dirty and take a close-up look at the business, while often emerging for a birds' eye, commercial lens.

Both technical and commercial acumen is favoured in this position, with an ideal candidate having an understanding of TV and Film production/production accounting. This is a great opportunity to contribute to exciting productions and support the growth of an exciting business at the heart of HETV.

The client's workplace culture is quite relaxed, where you're able to get as involved in the business as you'd like. Sharing buy-in and a passion for the TV and Film industry is very important. This role can vary depending on what productions and commissions they have ongoing, so someone who can manage in a fast-paced work environment and is resilient is key.

This is a mostly remote role, with occasional visits to their Central London office as agreed with the MD's. Outside of these meetings, you're free to come in as much or as little as you'd like.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide commercial and strategic financial guidance to the Founders and CEO to drive business growth
  • Develop cashflow forecasts, and analyse and report on project profitability
  • Monthly parent-company reporting
  • Managing the month and year end reporting process
  • Business partnering closely with the Founders and Heads of Production
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow analysis
  • Long-range business planning
  • Ensure compliance across HMRC audits and VAT regulations
  • Oversee financial operations with the support of a bookkeeper
  • Support with production-specific budgets and cost-reports
  • Oversee statutory audits
  • Support with funding applications and negotiations
  • Ad hoc tasks to support the wider team/business

What we'd like to see:

  • Previous experience in TV and Film production, or the wider creative industries (music/entertainment/marketing/advertising/media)
  • Demonstrably strong technical accounting and commercial finance skills
  • Strong communication skills

Salary: £90,000-£110,000

Location: Remote with occasional visits to Central London as needed
