Are you looking for flexible teaching opportunities in vibrant and dynamic secondary schools? Join GSL Education as a Classroom Supervisor and contribute to the education of young minds without the added workload of planning or marking!

GSL Education are currently recruiting Classroom Supervisors to work in 'Good' and 'Outstanding' secondary schools across Greenwich for daily or short-time cover. This role is ideal for graduates to gain experience in a school setting, developing classroom experience before deciding what career path in education they wish to choose or perhaps they have other commitments and need a greater work/life balance. Cover supervising also gives retired teachers the opportunity to earn extra money without the planning, marking and commitment required with full-time or permanent teaching.

Whether you’re an experienced cover supervisor, or overseas trained teachers looking to gain UK school experience, a recent graduate exploring a career in teaching, balancing other commitments, or retired from teaching but keen to stay involved, this flexible role provides an exciting opportunity to make a difference.

What the Role Will Involve:

  • Supervising classes of up to 30 pupils, ensuring a productive learning environment.
  • Assist in teaching and managing students across any year group from Year 7 to Year 11.
  • Delivering pre-set work issued with 6 lessons provided by the class teacher across a variety of subjects, such as History, French, Science, ICT, and English.
  • You don't need to be a specialist as work will always be left, you just need to be confident to maintain focus and keep the young people engaged.
  • The primary objective is to maintain control of the classroom and keep the learners working, completing the work left by their class teacher.
  • Communicate with the class teacher wherever possible, you may be their eyes and ears.
  • Be active, walking around the class and helping wherever possible – but maintain spatial awareness.
  • Have an opening gambit in mind, an introduction for each class as an ‘ice-breaker’ so the children can get to know you, as this will help build a professional relationship
  • Be aware of the school behaviour policy and follow it as necessary.
  • Managing behaviour and maintaining classroom control in line with the school's behaviour policy.
  • Engaging with students through confident communication and classroom management strategies.
  • Supporting students in completing their tasks and addressing any queries to the best of your ability.
  • Collaborating with teaching staff to ensure consistency in the classroom experience.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Graduates considering a career in teaching.
  • Anyone who wants to gain experience before training to teach
