Principal Machine Learning Engineer - Zurich start-up

This is an MSc/PhD level Principal ML Engineer position with a supremely well-funded AI start-up based in Zurich. UK home-based with fully expensed (hotel, flights etc) monthly visits to Zurich office.

The Principal ML role will see you 'in at the start’ working closely with equally senior FE, Data, Blockchain, AI, UI/UX specialists. Plans are in place to scale the business ambitiously from Q2. The framework is complete, and now they need to build the MVP.

It’s a supremely fascinating product and challenge.

You will need substantial commercial experience (5+ years) as a go-to senior Machine Learning specialist in a technology-led company together with demonstrably strong leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication. You’ll already be on a high salary.

A flavour of the role:

  • Develop and train ML models for precise material requirement calculations
  • Optimize ML models for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to integrate ML models into the platform’s backend
  • Perform data analysis to identify patterns and insights that inform model development
  • Test and validate ML models to ensure their reliability and performance
  • Implement and maintain model monitoring to detect and address performance issues
  • Implement algorithms to keep AI behaviour within defined operational ranges, ensuring safety and compliance
  • Document ML models and methodologies for future reference and scalability
  • Stay updated with the latest ML research and industry trends to continuously improve model capabilities
  • Work closely with the Product and Development teams to ensure alignment of ML initiatives with business objectives
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to ML model performance and data quality

Requirements:

  • Minimum BSc (1st/2.1) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics; PhD/Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as an ML Specialist or in a similar role within a technology-driven company
  • Strong background in machine learning algorithms, data analysis, and model training
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java
  • Experience with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with data preprocessing and feature engineering techniques
  • Experience with cloud-based ML services is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to implement algorithms that ensure AI operates within established parameters and safety standards
