Service Care Legal are recruiting on behalf of a London Borough Council who are seeking a Senior Housing & Disrepair Lawyer to join their team on a contract basis. Please find below further details regarding this opportunity.

ROLE: Senior Housing and Disrepair LawyerLOCATION: South East LondonCONTRACT Initial 3 month with scope for extension, 36 hours per weekRATE: £40.00 to £50.00 per hour LTD (DOE, PQE and interview performance)

Please note that this position would require office attendance 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on all aspects of housing law, with a focus on disrepair claims and landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Represent the council in court hearings, including disrepair claims and related housing matters.
  • Manage a varied caseload of housing disrepair cases from inception to conclusion, providing effective and pragmatic legal solutions.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, witness statements, and advice notes.
  • Work closely with the council's housing department to support compliance with legal obligations and housing policies.
  • Ensure the timely and effective resolution of cases, liaising with clients, external parties, and stakeholders.

The Person:

  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with significant experience in housing law, particularly disrepair.
  • Strong track record in handling complex housing disrepair claims, ideally within the public sector.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to advise and represent the council effectively.
  • Knowledge of the legal frameworks surrounding housing law, including relevant statutes and case law.
  • Experience in dealing with court proceedings and advocacy.
