Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Transport Manager to join their team in East Ham! This is an exciting opportunity to support the Transport Manager while leading a dedicated Fleet Management team.
What You'll Do:As the Assistant Transport Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Council's transport fleet. Your responsibilities will include:
- Fleet Oversight: Manage and ensure compliance for over 500 vehicles and 200 items of plant, keeping them in top-notch condition.
- Team Leadership: Supervise a team of approximately five fleet management staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Driver Compliance: Monitor and manage driver behaviour for a diverse group of over 600 drivers, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards.
- Green Fleet Management: Assist in the delivery of environmentally friendly fleet operations aligned with the Council's Clean Air Action Plan and Mayoral priorities.
- Vehicle Procurement: Support the procurement process for vehicles, ensuring they meet Council needs and are environmentally friendly, managing a budget of up to £20 million.
- Health and Safety Champion: Promote and adhere to Health and Safety practises, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience: Proven experience in supervising complex fleet operations in compliance with Council's Operator Licence.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of vehicle and plant procurement, maintenance, and UK & EU regulations.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities to build relationships with internal and external partners.
- Certifications: A certificate of professional competence in National Road Haulage and a full driving licence (HGV desirable).
- Be prepared to work evenings and weekends when necessary to meet operational demands.
