info
  • Allen & York are recruiting an Environmental Policy Manager for an automotive member organization, focusing on sustainability and circularity in the automotive sector.
  • The role requires a degree in an environmental or science discipline and prior experience in a highly regulated sector, ideally with knowledge of circularity, batteries, and chemicals.
  • Candidates should have strong communication skills and the ability to analyze data, as well as experience in liaising with government departments and stakeholders at national and international levels.
  • This position is based in London with a salary of £60,000 to £70,000 and requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • The role involves a minimum of 50% office attendance and may require travel for face-to-face meetings with stakeholders.

Allen & York are excited to be working with an automotive member organisation as they look to recruit an Environmental Policy Manager. Joining a dedicated Team of environmental professionals in the Public Policy & Vehicle Legislation Department, this is a key role in developing and leading on policy and regulatory activities within the automotive sector from a sustainability perspective and one where you can really drive change, in particular around circularity.

As the technical expert, this is a unique opportunity to have a positive and direct impact on the automotive sector and drive changes in legislation around circularity, electric batteries and their sustainability and chemicals, in both the UK and overseas. You will lead on projects and develop reports around these technical areas, liaising with members to listen to their concerns and opinions and then working with government departments to represent their views and agree on future progress. You'll also work closely with other stakeholders at the UK, EU and UN level so some national and international travel will be required, as well as being knowledgeable around regulatory changes.

Your experience of circularity and the broader regulatory piece (in particular EU regulation) is really important to this role, and if you have experience of batteries and chemicals, that will be a bonus.

You will be able to confidently analyse data and turn this into engaging presentations which will drive changes to strategy and policy and the role - whilst technical - will require strong communication skills to liaise with industry representatives and key stakeholders with an ability to present as required at events to industry peers and to government officials. As such, an engaging and influential personality is required and you'll be comfortable building strong relationships and networking with key stakeholders.

You will be degree qualified in an environmental or science discipline, and you'll have experience working perhaps within a sector with complex supply chains and those that are highly regulated such as energy or advanced manufacturing. You may work in a consultancy so be engaging with different sectors or within a government body in a technical capacity.

With the HQ based in London, you will be required to be in the office for a minimum of 50% of the week (with Tuesdays as one of the days when the whole Team is in) but you'll be attending face to face meetings with stakeholders and members so these meetings would be taken from your office time. To that end, you'll be based in the South East, within commutable distance of Central London and you'll be happy to travel when required.

So, if you're interested and would like to find out more about this opportunity, where you can be at the forefront of driving policy and legislative changes in sustainability, please send your CV to (url removed).
