Our client is a well respected and world class distributor of functional ingredients and is seeking an experienced Regulatory Affairs Manager. This role oversees Regulatory strategy for the organisation, providing leadership and guidance to the business on Regulatory matters for Food, Feed and Personal care activity in the UK and other markets to drive compliance within their ingredient agent, brokerage and solution manufacturing businesses. You will manage 1 Regulatory affairs specialist and report to the European Quality Manager. The Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance with food and feed safety, quality and defence as it relates to UK, EU and GFSI (BRC) requirements, Organic, Halal, FAMI QS and Kosher
  • Develop and maintain Regulatory strategies for existing ingredients and new ingredients/products in the UK and EU regions ensuring compliance to but not limited to Allergens, REACH, Novel Food, Packaging Food Contract Materials, Food Law and Labelling. Feed laws and labelling, Residues and Contaminates, Natural and Botanical Ingredients etc.
  • Monitor changes in legislations and regulatory requirements, pro actively assessing impact on business and updating senior management team compliance protocols as necessary. Where needed participate actively to regulatory surveillance and interface with key external experts (ESSNA, HFMA, FSA, etc)
  • Coordinate all communications with local & EU authorities with regards to licences, authorisations, 3rd country representation, as well as any changes from those bodies and provide strategy regulatory compliance to senior management team.
  • Serve as Regulatory point of contact for internal stakeholders, providing regulatory support, information in relation to compliance to various markets and product applications. Example of review provided: Novel food status, Natural status, claims, labelling etc.
  • Responsible for simultaneously managing multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Maintain working knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging food/feed regulations with the view to make decisions with regards to products and materials compliance status for the business and guide senior management team as a result.
  • Participate actively to regulatory surveillance and interface with key external experts (ESSNA, HFMA, FSA, etc)
  • Implement and validate action plans in response to regulatory changes in the market. Provide a high standard of food & feed regulatory expertise to relevant departments in the business.
  • Assisting, as required, in the management of crisis and incidents as part of the management team
  • Propose system development projects (including IT tools) to provide transparency on regulatory matters for the product portfolio.
  • Provide review and advice on raw material horizon scanning per product categories as part of their FSMS.

The successful candidate as a Regulatory Affairs professional in the Food industry is essential and have strong regulatory experience with a breadth of Food Products. Ideally have a Bachelors Degree in Food Science, Food Technology or a related field with 5-10 years of regulatory experience in food, pharmaceutical ingredient and/or chemical distribution industry. Strong knowledge of the food and drink industry and government bodies in the UK and the EU and have the ability to work from multiple UK sites. Must have experience in feed additives and API desirable. You will fit easily in a multi-cultural and multi-functional team. You will also be self sufficient and results focused with great analytical and communications skills. You will be able to understand how your decisions impact the wider business strategy. You'll also have great communication skills that enable you to challenge and influence across all levels whilst being able to develop positive stakeholder relationships. You will need to be flexible when prioritising work in an environment that will often be ambiguous and sometimes pressured.
