£40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Our client, a leading UK national discount retail business, is currently seeking an experienced Buyer specialising in consumables and food-based products. This pivotal role presents an opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the company's product selection and overall success.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in sourcing, negotiating, and securing the best possible deals on high-quality consumables and food products. With a keen eye for market trends and a solid understanding of consumer demand, the Buyer will ensure that our client's product offerings remain competitive and appealing.

The Candidate

• Has proven experience in a Buyer role, specifically within the consumables and food product categories, ideally within the discount retail sector.
• Possesses strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen.
• Demonstrates excellent analytical abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Is passionate about products, with an acute awareness of emerging trends and opportunities.
• Can effectively collaborate across teams and communicate at all levels.
• Fluent in Mandarin or Cantonese is highly desirable but not essential
• Retail & distribution experience is advantageous
• Holds a degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field (desirable).

Key Responsibilities

• Identifying and sourcing new and innovative consumables and food products that align with the company’s brand values and meet customer expectations.
• Develop and execute effective buying strategies tailored to the FMCG/food sector.
• Managing and negotiating with suppliers to achieve favourable terms in pricing, quality, and delivery.
• Analysing market trends and consumer behaviours to inform strategic buying decisions.
• Collaborating with the merchandising and marketing teams to ensure effective promotion and positioning of the product range.
• Monitoring stock levels and sales performance, making adjustments to buying plans as necessary to optimize sales and profitability.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant food safety and labeling regulations.
