The Senior Youth Workers will serve as role models and mentors, working mainly with children and young people from diverse communities.

We are looking for forward-thinking, responsible individuals to develop and deliver a challenging and progressive youth work programme in a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. The Senior Youth Workers will serve as role models and mentors, working mainly with children and young people from diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Youth Programme Development & Leadership

  • Lead and manage ECYC’s Under 8’s Project, Junior Club, and Senior Club
  • Act as ECYC’s Designated Safeguarding Lead for these sessions, ensuring all child protection procedures are followed.
  • Develop and promote a diverse programme of engaging activities, shaped through consultation with young people, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ensure that all sessions provide a safe and welcoming environment for young people.
  • Lead by example - setting the tone of the session and creating an atmosphere that prioritises young people’s development.

Staff Supervision & Team Management

  • Supervise and support staff, volunteers, and young leaders to ensure the effective delivery of sessions.
  • Conduct briefings and debriefings to ensure key messages are understood before and after each session.
  • Carry out effective induction, regular supervision, and appraisals of all team members.
  • Ensure that all areas are properly supervised, including the main entrance, and that staff remain engaged with young people at all times.
  • Identify staff training needs and provide ongoing professional development.
  • Ensure that staff follow health & safety procedures, including signing in and out for payroll accuracy and compliance.
  • Actively manage behaviour, enforce club rules, and ensure staff are treated with respect.
  • As a Senior Youth Worker and keyholder, you are responsible for securing the premises, maintaining safety protocols, managing incidents, and demonstrating leadership.

Safeguarding & Reporting

  • Ensure that the safeguarding of children and young people is paramount and that ECYC’s policies are strictly followed.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns promptly - urgent issues must be raised immediately, followed by an email report.
  • Monitor staff understanding of ECYC’s safeguarding, health & safety, and child protection policies, and address any gaps in knowledge.
