Exciting Opportunity for a Traffic Management Operative
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Traffic Management Operative to join a dynamic and growing team within the Environment and Transport Department. This position will involve the delivery and collection of temporary traffic management signage and supporting highway maintenance, construction, and street lighting activities across Leicestershire and occasionally surrounding counties.
The main duties of the Traffic Management Operative are:
路Erect and remove appropriate temporary traffic management signs to support the highway delivery workforce.
路Assist in the scheduling and coordination of resources for signage delivery and collection.
路Ensure safe installation and maintenance of traffic control systems, including road closures and diversions.
路Carry out routine checks and maintenance of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
路Work closely with the Sign Shop and Traffic Management Technicians, providing cover when needed.
路Participate in a standby rota to provide out-of-hours support during emergencies.
路Ensure that temporary traffic management systems comply with Chapter 8 and the Code of Practice for Safety at Streetworks.
路Lead and supervise apprentices and agency employees to ensure adherence to safety standards and performance targets.
路Maintain and update training records to comply with legal requirements and departmental procedures.
The Traffic Management Operative will have key experience in:
路Previous experience in highways or civil engineering environments, especially in traffic management.
路Knowledge of safe working practices, including legislation such as the Code of Practice for Safety at Roadworks and Chapter 8 Traffic Management Regulations.
路Skilled in the use of plant, machinery, and tools for installing traffic control systems.
路The ability to plan, prioritise, and manage workload effectively.
路Ability to communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
路A proactive approach to health and safety, ensuring compliance with regulations.
路A valid driving license, with the ability to travel to various depots and sites as required.
