About the Role

Luton is on a journey of improvement, and we are seeking a Deputy Team Manager to join our Family Safeguarding Service. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality children's social services across the borough, focused on achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.

In this role, you will assess, support, and safeguard children at risk of harm, working in a multi-disciplinary team that engages family members and professionals from the outset. You will manage day-to-day tasks such as assessments, care planning, and child protection with a primary goal of preventing family separation wherever possible. You'll also help children reach their potential by prioritizing their welfare and recommending interventions as needed.

In collaboration with the Team Manager, you'll lead, motivate, and coach the team to maintain high standards of social work practice, supporting team members in their professional growth and ensuring effective outcomes for children.

About You

We're looking for a passionate, driven individual with in-depth post-qualifying experience and a background in managing, mentoring, and coaching staff. You should have strong leadership skills, be able to inspire a team, and ensure high performance.

Key skills for this role include strong communication, collaboration, and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to make professional judgements and articulate them clearly. You should be comfortable representing the service in various internal and external meetings.

Requirements:

  • Dip SW, CQSW, or recognised equivalent.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Substantial professional social work experience.
