A leading and well-established main contractor in the construction industry is seeking a skilled and experienced Design Manager/Senior Design Manager to join their team. This company is renowned for delivering high-quality projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, commercial and residential up to 50m. With a commitment to sustainability, innovation, and client satisfaction, they provide a dynamic and collaborative working environment for their employees.

As a Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process on multiple construction projects, ensuring that designs meet both client expectations and contractual requirements. You will play a crucial role in managing design consultants, coordinating with internal project teams, and delivering high-quality, buildable design solutions on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure effective communication and delivery of design objectives.
  • Manage the coordination of design consultants and ensure the integration of design information into the construction process.
  • Ensure design compliance with contractual obligations, building regulations, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure that design solutions are buildable, cost-effective, and align with the construction programme.
  • Identify and manage design risks, ensuring timely resolution of any design-related issues.
  • Prepare and review design documentation, ensuring timely submission and approval processes.
  • Support the tendering process by providing technical design input during pre-construction stages.
  • Maintain a strong focus on health and safety, sustainability, and innovative design practices.

What We're Looking For:

  • Proven experience in design management within the construction industry, ideally across a variety of sectors (healthcare, education, commercial, or residential).
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide and influence design consultants and project teams.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and knowledge of BIM processes is a plus.
  • A proactive problem-solver with attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Experience in managing the design process from concept through to completion, with a focus on cost efficiency and buildability.
