New Product Development Chemist

Manchester
We are working with an established chemical company in Manchester who are seeking a chemist to work primarily as kilo scale in synthesis chemistry activities.
This is an organic chemistry role, which will be suitable for someone who is a graduate in chemistry with a bit of experience (or equivalently qualified).
What you’ll do:
The role will be driven towards duties in four core areas which are New Product Development, Process Chemistry, Process Optimisation and Technical Support.
You will be working on chemistry in response to core business needs for chemicals they stock every day, and also in response to client requests where the company operates as a contract manufacturing organisation.
The role will involve reaction route identification, and then carrying out the chemical reactions to kilo scale. You will then be working in the characterisation of the chemicals (using GC, HPLC, FTIR, UV) and this will involve you developing methods for analysis, as well as checking factors like exothermic properties, how they are cooling, what gasses are being produced and ensuring the chemistry 'fits the bill’ for being transferred to the plant which will then be scales up to multi-tonne.
As a chemistry graduate you will have a good understanding of the chemical factors driving successful reactions, and able to produce comprehensive technical reporting and development work. You will be combining this with a strong analytical chemistry technical skill set and method development delivery.
Your background:
We are seeking a graduate in Chemistry or a closely related subject as well as some experience of working in a similar role. You will be skilled in synthetic organic chemistry, working on scale up projects as well as characterisation using GC and HPLC alongside method development, validation, calibration and maintenance. You will be reporting into the technical manager and our client employs less than 100 people so you will be holding a pivotal NPD role and this will call for strong communication and teamworking skills.
On this occasion, LiCa Scientific is acting as an employment agency.
