My client is seeking a highly skilled Freelance Civil & Structural Engineer to support a range of infrastructure projects across the water, nuclear, and highways sectors. This is an exciting opportunity for an independent professional looking to work on challenging, high-profile projects while maintaining flexibility.

As a freelance engineer, you will provide specialist civil and structural design expertise, supporting projects at various stages, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction supervision. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, offering technical solutions, risk assessments, and compliance guidance.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys the freedom of freelance work and has a strong track record in delivering structural solutions in complex, safety-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide civil and structural design solutions for projects in the water, nuclear, and highways sectors.
  • Conduct structural analysis and design calculations, ensuring compliance with Eurocodes, British Standards, and industry regulations.
  • Carry out site inspections, condition assessments, and feasibility studies for infrastructure upgrades and new developments.
  • Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and specifications for clients and contractors.
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Offer guidance on construction methodologies, material selection, and risk mitigation in challenging environments.
  • Ensure designs adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations, particularly in nuclear and highway infrastructure projects.
  • Work with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, STAAD.Pro, and structural analysis tools.
What We're Looking For

? Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered status (or working towards it) with ICE, IStructE, or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in at least one of the following sectors: water, nuclear, or highways.
  • Strong knowledge of structural materials (concrete, steel, timber) and geotechnical considerations.
  • Experience with temporary works, foundation design, and reinforced concrete structures is a plus.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while managing multiple projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for complex structural challenges.
  • Strong communication skills for client liaison, report writing, and presenting technical information.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
