Senior – Principal Structural Engineer – Manchester City Centre

Vertical Recruitment are working closely with a leading multidiscipline Property and Construction Consultancy. Due to an increase in the demand for their expertise, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior/ Principal Structural Engineer to join their experienced Civil & Structural Engineering discipline which includes over 100 structural & civil engineers in 7 UK offices.

Based at their dynamic and thriving Manchester offices with over 80 staff in the heart of the city centre covering a wide range of disciplines in property and construction, you will play an important role in strengthening their Structural Engineering team not only within the Manchester office but throughout the entire structures discipline within their consultancy.

This role is ideal for someone with extensive structural engineering experience and be chartered / near chartered.

In this role you will be responsible for assisting in the provision of a wide range of engineering services to a variety of projects including new build schools, retirement villages, car manufacturing plants and residential tower blocks.

What you need to do to be effective in this role

  • Production of structural engineering work packages relating to medium to large development projects from initial concept through to completion.
  • Production of calculations packages for Building Control submission.
  • Undertake survey inspections and produce written reports in good English on findings, set out in a logical manner with appropriate recommendations.
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Represent the company at external meetings with clients, contractors, and fellow professionals.
  • Be responsible for delivering work to a fee and to timescales agreed.
  • Prepare client / project proposals.
  • Agree design philosophy / design fundamentals.
  • Manage individuals or groups within the team on a daily basis from both a technical and workflow perspectives.
  • Assist in organising the wider team workflow in conjunction with the project billing.
  • Input into the monthly team financials.

The skills and experience you need to have for this role

  • Be a graduate with a good degree in structural engineering
  • Member of Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers (or working towards this)
  • Proven experience of working in a relevant design role which will be discussed at interview
  • A good understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in use of design software such as Tekla, Tedds, SCIA
