We're seeking a Personal Tax Manager to bolster our private client team and support our ambitious growth plans. You'll take charge of a diverse portfolio of high-net-worth clients, offering expert tax advice and compliance services. Collaborating with our partners, you'll ensure top-tier client service while mentoring junior team members in our dynamic tax department.
Our clients range from entrepreneurs and property investors to business owners and those managing family wealth. Primarily UK-based, the portfolio also includes complex cases for non-UK residents and domiciliaries, often tied to international interests or UK and offshore trusts.
Key Responsibilities
- Engaging with clients on routine and ad-hoc matters via email, phone, and face-to-face meetings, addressing inheritance tax, income tax, and capital gains tax queries.
- Coordinating tax return data collection, working with clients and third-party professionals to gather necessary information.
- Tracking personal time budgets and chargeability goals to maintain efficiency.
- Handling all aspects of income tax (including National Insurance) and capital gains tax, including reviewing PAYE coding notices as needed.
- Preparing for and attending meetings with current and prospective clients, setting budgets, and ensuring work is completed on time and within scope.
- Reviewing Self-Assessment tax returns prepared by team members, ensuring accuracy for client sign-off and timely submission.
- Supporting partners with advisory projects, preparing reports on topics like inheritance tax planning, residency, UK trusts, and business structuring.
- Responding promptly to routine client correspondence to maintain strong relationships.
- Managing HMRC correspondence for s9A enquiries and preparing digital disclosure submissions.
- Prioritising workloads to deliver exceptional client care and meet HMRC deadlines, working independently with initiative.
- Contributing to departmental meetings and networking at events to drive business development.
- Overseeing quarterly billing, setting reserves, and updating partners on billing matters.
Qualifications/Education Required
- CTA, ACA, or equivalent qualification, with a strong background in private client tax.
Particular Aptitudes/Skills Required
- Proven client-facing experience, with confidence in regular client interactions and meetings.
- Excellent organisational skills to manage workloads and deadlines effectively.
- Ability to work independently, showing initiative in client affairs and time management.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- People management skills to support junior staff.
- Commercial awareness to enhance client relationships and firm growth.
