Simply Education is partnering with a SEMH School in Stockport to appoint a Psychology Graduate for the role of Teaching Assistant. This is a permanent position and would start as soon as possible due to an increase in referrals. About the School:

Our client, an Ofsted 'Good' rated specialist provision, is seeking an enthusiastic Psychology Graduate to join their team to support in the classroom as a teaching assistant. The school offers a full national curriculum, including the early years foundation stage, and a variety of different pathways, including Unit Award Schemes, GCSEs, and BTEC qualifications. With strong community links with the local sixth form, this school prides itself on offering a child-centred learning approach that considers each child's individual interests, needs, learning pace, and style.

As a Psychology Graduate, you will have the opportunity to support students on both a small group and one-to-one basis. The ideal candidate will be passionate and nurturing, with an understanding of SEMH (although prior experience is not essential). You must be resourceful and adaptable in your approach, as you will be working with students who require tailored support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the students' Teacher to deliver high-quality bespoke learning opportunities focusing on students' interests, vocational studies, and functional skills in English and Maths.
  • Support students to re-engage with their learning and encourage their personal development.
  • Model and promote high behaviour expectations across the school.
  • Communicate effectively and build rapport with students to inspire and motivate them.
  • Collaborate with the students' Teacher to prepare the students for life beyond school.

Key Requirements:

  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people.
  • An understanding of working with students who have Autism.
  • Knowledge of vocational education and its benefits.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Resilience and the ability to model and promote high behaviour expectations.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A driving license and access to own transport is desirable.
