Reed Scientific is recruiting for a world leading research facility in the North West. We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to provide high-quality support services to our laboratory areas. This role involves supervising a team, liaising with laboratory personnel, and acting as deputy for the Lab Services Manager as required. The ideal candidate will be capable of handling physical tasks, including the safe transportation of heavy loads.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Supervise the processing of glassware and plastics using industrial washing machines and other equipment.
  • Assist in the collection and distribution of laboratory items, ensuring a smooth operation within the service area.
  • Maintain and operate equipment such as autoclaves, drying ovens, and ensure primary maintenance is upheld.
  • Manage stock records and ensure laboratories are adequately stocked with necessary materials daily.
  • Produce and sterilise media and agar plates, supporting the bulk production needs.
  • Use online ordering software to maintain supplies and service contracts, and support lab services engineers as needed.
  • Train staff, assist with laboratory health and safety, and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educated at Degree level in Chemistry.
  • Experience in a laboratory setting, preferably with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and safety protocols.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle physical tasks and operate industrial equipment safely.
  • Proficient in using laboratory and stock management software.
