Attendance and Pastoral Officer

Location: Rotherham

Salary: £24,999 per annum (FTE) (Pro-rata £21,153) per annum

The Role

As an Attendance and Pastoral Officer, you will have the opportunity to play a leading role in raising achievement by improving attendance and providing pastoral support to their students. In this face to face student support role you will work directly with learners to improve attendance and positive behaviours. You will work alongside students to identify triggers and implement strategies to encourage them to make good life choices. In this dynamic role, your time will predominantly be spent out and about around the college campus, engaging positively with learners.

Attendance is key to a successful learning journey. In this role you will work with students, parents and colleagues to promote positive attitudes and develop life skills, that will support transition into adulthood and progression into higher level study or employment.

Skills and Qualifications

You will have experience of working within an educational setting, ideally within a Further Education/Post-16 environment. You will have experience supporting students by overcoming barriers to learning, including mental health issues. You will have an understanding on how external influences can impact on wellbeing and understand strategies to promote positive wellbeing.

You will have qualifications in English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent, a Level 3 qualification in any relevant subject and hold or be willing to work towards a Level 2 Guidance/Counselling qualification. You will also be able to demonstrate good customer service skills and be able to work with respect and confidentiality.

Department Info

The role reports to the Student Support Team Leader on your campus. Working with colleagues within the Safeguarding and Student Support structure and curriculum teams. You will need to work closely with the Curriculum Admin team to ensure effective communication.
