Database Administrator/Engineer (Outside IR35)

6-month Contract

£300 - £400pd DOE (Limited/Umbrella)

SC Clearance required due to the nature of the role

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out routine configuration, installation and reconfiguration of database and related products to optimize performance and implement change
  • Build and troubleshoot infrastructure solutions using architect's drawings, diagrams and/or data flows
  • Identify and take ownership of technical problems and incidents; manage, coordinate and prioritise tasks to resolve technical incidents as quickly as possible
  • Identify and investigate repeat issues and faults, initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends, consulting specialists where required; determine the appropriate remedy and preventative measures; assist with their implementation
  • Develop and document change requests to improve control / reduce risk to security performance and availability; analyse and assess impact of change requests
  • Create Technical and Functional Documentation and ensure that is reviewed and maintained accurately

Essential Experience:

  • Understanding of MS SQL Server best practices
  • Database Maintenance (Install/Configure/Maintain SQL Servers) they utilise Ola Hallengren maintenance solution so knowledge of this is preferred
  • Always On/High availability knowledge, replication.
  • Backup/Restores of SQL Server
  • Understanding of database roles and permissions as well as data security - trying to move to an RBACs model like we have for AD for SQL.
  • SSRS reporting / Work in conjunction with other teams to get customised reporting for the business.
  • Familiarity with other databases such as Postgres, MariaDB.
  • Azure Capability/AWS Working knowledge
  • Substantial experience in relevant roles, including technologies in an enterprise environment, and of working within a secure environment, e.g. MOD; CAB Office, Home Office.
  • Experience in a high-pressured, fast-paced team
  • Knowledge of ITIL working practices, Incident Management, Problem Management
  • Change and release management
