Leading UK multi-site retailer, operating from hundreds of locations throughout the UK and Ireland seeks Indirect Tax and VAT Specialist for a newly created role in a talented and well-established Tax team.Reporting to the Group Head of Tax, you will be primarily responsible for managing indirect taxes, although you may also have some responsibilities for direct taxes. You will assist in leading the Group’s tax initiatives, as well as ad-hoc projects.Your key responsibilities as Indirect Tax and VAT Specialist will include:

  • Managing the VAT compliance process and VAT reporting for several VAT registrations, ensuring accurate and timely filing of VAT returns and payments
  • Conducting risk assessments and implement risk management strategies related to VAT including the development and maintenance of processes and internal controls to support VAT compliance
  • Collaborating with business divisions and cross-functional teams to ensure that VAT is correctly accounted for on all transactions.
  • Preparing, reviewing and submitting Intrastat returns.
  • Providing expertise and support for customs duty-related issues such as origin determination/valuation of goods/tariff classification
  • Managing the relationship with HMRC in relation to all indirect tax issues including inquiries and audits
  • Providing training and guidance to the business on all indirect tax matters, ensuring awareness and understanding of obligations in this area.

As Indirect Tax and VAT Specialist you’ll need:

  • Strong experience gained in a relevant Tax Specialist, Tax Associate, Tax Accountant, VAT Specialist or similar role - from industry, practice or HMRC
  • Qualified ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent accountant/tax professional
  • Experience of UK VAT compliance - experience of dealing with Customs issues beneficial
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills
