Job Title: Employment Lawyer

Location: Northampton

Salary: DOE

Main Responsibilities:

  • To undertake fee earning work and to contribute to the business and financial objectives of the practice.
  • To participate in the marketing activities of the practice as instructed by the Head of Team and the Head of Marketing.
  • To achieve financial targets set by the Head of Finance and Head of Team

Key Tasks:

  • To undertake fee earning work, working both independently, with minimal supervision and as a member of the team.
  • To maintain existing relations with the firms clients and assist and help develop new relationships with third party referrers.
  • Reviewing and amending employment contracts and consultancy contracts, HR policies and staff handbooks to ensure they are comprehensive, up to date and compliant with current employment law and best practice.
  • Advising on all HR matters including performance management, absence management, disciplinary processes, grievance processes and procedures, equality act matters, and anti-compete issues.
  • Management of employment litigation including unfair dismissal, discrimination and restrictive covenants.
  • Advising on all aspects of TUPE, redundancy and reorganisation including consultation processes, risk areas, varying terms and conditions.
  • Advising on settlement agreements.
  • Represent and liaise with both employers and employees
  • A willingness to participate in the growth and future development of the Team, assisting in building up the client base and marketing the firms legal services.
  • To comply with any direction or instruction in the Firms Practice Manual regarding client care.

Personal Situation

Must be committed geographically to the Northamptonshire area. Able to commute reliably to office base. Able to work extended hours on occasions when required. Must have clean or near clean driving licence.

Specific Job Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of all areas of both contentious and non-contentious employment law.
  • Proven track record in advising businesses on all employment related matters, including TUPE (both TUPE transfers and SPCs)
  • Competent in drafting all employment law related documentation including contracts of employment, director service agreements, consultancy agreements and settlement agreements
  • Experience in handling employment litigation caseloads
  • Proven track record in providing employment law related assistance on corporate transactional work including drafting complex TUPE provisions

Computer skills

Must be adept in use of case management systems. Must be competent in use of Outlook and Word.

Client & Business Development Skills

Excellent client facing skills and the ability to nurture existing clients and third party relationships as well as the ability to help develop new business and assist in networking events
