Senior Financial Accountant (Temporary - with potential for permanent opportunity)

Our client, a growing organisation, is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join their finance team after acquiring a new business. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is looking to make an immediate impact and take on a key role in maintaining financial accuracy and reporting, while collaborating with a growing finance team.

About the Role:

Working directly wiht the Finance Manager to ensure the integrity of the trial balance and supporting key accounting functions. This will include managing management accounting, statutory accounting, and working closely with auditors to provide necessary samples. The role will also involve financial planning and analysis, including forecasting and budgeting, although this function may be streamlined out of the role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Trial Balance Management: Overseeing and ensuring the accuracy of the trial balance, including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepayments, and posting journal entries.
  • Management and Statutory Accounting: Maintaining the full P&L and variance analysis, ensuring that management accounts tie to the balance sheet on a monthly basis.
  • Auditor Support: Working closely with external auditors, providing samples and supporting the audit process.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Managing intercompany transactions, inventory, and related reconciliations.
  • Balance Sheet Ownership: Full responsibility for maintaining and reconciling the balance sheet and associated accounts.
  • FP&A: Forecasting and budgeting tasks.
  • Process Improvement: Overseeing and improving accounting processes related to financial reporting and reconciliation.

The ideal candidate will come from a strong practice background, with experience compiling accounts and a solid understanding of debits and credits. A hands-on approach to managing and reconciling accounts is crucial, especially in areas such as maintaining subsidiary ledgers (SL), profit and loss (PL) controller accounts, and ownership of the full bank reconciliation process.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • ACA/ACCA or equivalent qualification (or QBE).
  • Proven experience in a senior accounting role, ideally within a practice environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, including statutory and management accounting.
  • Solid experience with trial balance, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and P&L reporting.
  • Experience with AP, AR, intercompany transactions, and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with auditing processes and the ability to support auditors with necessary documentation and analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
