Job Overview:We are looking for a dedicated and responsible School Caretaker to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation and maintenance of school premises. The caretaker will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and be capable of handling routine maintenance, repairs, and health & safety checks.Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and Repairs:Perform general repairs, such as fixing doors, windows, furniture, and minor plumbing or electrical issues. Coordinate with external contractors for larger repairs.
  • Cleaning and Hygiene:Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of school premises, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and outdoor areas. Assist the cleaning staff when necessary.
  • Health & Safety:Conduct regular health and safety checks around the premises, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Identify and address potential hazards. Carry out fire alarm and emergency lighting tests, keeping accurate records.
  • Security:Responsible for opening and closing the school, including gates, doors, and windows. Set and deactivate alarms and conduct security patrols to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Groundskeeping:Maintain the school grounds, ensuring they are clean, tidy, and safe. This may include minor landscaping, such as trimming hedges and cutting grass.
  • Waste Management:Ensure proper disposal of waste and recycling. Manage bins and ensure outdoor areas are kept free from litter.
  • Stock and Supplies:Maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies. Order replacements when necessary and ensure supplies are stored securely.
  • Event Support:Assist with the setup and breakdown of school events, including moving furniture, setting up rooms, and ensuring spaces are clean and ready for use.
  • Additional Duties:Carry out any other duties as required by the headteacher or facilities manager, ensuring the smooth running of the school.
