Job Title: Trainee Paralegal - Court of Protection Department

Position Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Trainee Paralegal to join our Court of Protection department. This role is ideal for individuals looking to start their career in the legal field, particularly those with a keen interest in working with vulnerable clients and making a positive impact. The successful candidate will support the team in managing a varied caseload relating to property, and financial affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Assist in managing a caseload of Court of Protection matters under the supervision of senior solicitors. This includes cases involving deputyship applications, and other related areas.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, family members, and other stakeholders in a compassionate and professional manner. Provide updates on case progress and gather necessary information.
  • Document Preparation: Draft legal documents, correspondence, and reports related to Court of Protection cases. This may include witness statements, court applications, and affidavits.
  • Legal Research: Conduct research on relevant laws, regulations, and precedents to support case preparation and decision-making processes.
  • Court Support: Assist in the preparation for court hearings, including organizing and compiling necessary documentation and evidence.
  • Administrative Duties: Perform general administrative tasks such as file management, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring all case files are up-to-date and organised.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all activities comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements, including those set out by the Court of Protection.

Requirements:

  • Education: A degree in Law or a related field is preferred. Completion of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or an equivalent qualification is advantageous.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a legal setting or working with vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
    • Empathy and the ability to handle sensitive situations with care and confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management software (Proclaim).
