We have an excellent opportunity for a Permit Office based in Reading, Berkshire within the nuclear / defence industry.

Candidates with existing SC Level security clearance or higher, are required for this role.

The Permit Officer will be accountable to the M&E Permit Office Lead for the day to day running of work control and authorisation of Mechanical and Electrical Safety documents following the Permit Office Procedure and Key Control Process.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be responsible to your manager for the execution of your individual job responsibilities. You shall:

Control M, E&I works from the M&E Permit Office

Provide ā€œfront of houseā€ services from the Permit Office

Issue and sign back of specific permits and other safety documents on site.

Maintain and promote high personal standards in Environment, Safety, Health, Security and Quality.

Ensure the agreed records and documentation are produced and maintained to demonstrate compliance to relevant quality, performance, standards, and legislation.

Responsible for undertaking other duties as reasonably required from time to time by line and task management.

To cover your absence from site during holiday periods, you are to handover your duties to a delegate agreed with your manager.


SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To act within your own knowledge, training, and experience to fulfil your role to the best of your ability. If you are unsure, you are to seek advice before proceeding.

Ensure compliance with security, quality, environment safety and health requirements for all work being undertaken within the project

Provide a work control service, permitting work by competent persons under an appropriate safe method of work in accordance with an agreed plan and work authorisation in conjunction to LC12. (Dully authorised and other suitably qualified and experience persons)

Contribute to the scheduling and de-confliction of work activities and to the formal opening and closing of the project construction site in conjunction with LC9 (Instruction to persons on the site.)

Assist the SAP-E and SAP-M in cross boundary working within the project and with external service providers such as site utilities.

Act as a gate keeper for the Electrical and Mechanical Safety Codes and associated safety documents such as PTW, LoA, ToR

Act as a gate keeper for the Permit Office Procedure and Key Control Process

Issue keys to those authorised following the above procedures

Ensure those signing safety documents are authorised to do so, such as Authorised Person's (AP's), Person in Charge (PiC's) and Equipment Owners.

Training PiC's on the PTW & LoA processes, and maintaining a log of who has been trained

Reporting any deviations from procedures to the AE-E, AE-M and Construction Director

Carry out routine checks and operates record keeping systems associated with work control

Actively committed to safety & maintaining a culture of zero accidents or incidents relating to occupational & personnel safety, security, health issues and environmental matters within areas of accountability

Maintain records of work being performed.

Control & co-ordination of work & informing relevant persons that work is to take place.

Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality and be a great team player.
