Sustainability Lead

Contract - 6 months

Reading - Hybrid-working

The Property Team is accountable for the estate management and implementation of property and planning strategies across the shared and unilateral network property portfolio, ensuring partners & suppliers adhere to agreed guidelines when undertaking work or upgrades on the property estate.

This role will join the Property Operations Team (Energy) and will lead the development and delivery of the organisation's sustainability agenda working closely with the Senior Property Operations Manager as part of the organisations Energy and Power Roadmap. They will be responsible for the organisation's sustainability strategy and develop initiatives to support this.

What you will do:

  • Develop a sustainability strategy focused on our specific legal and statutory requirements and what we need to do to support our Shareholders' legal and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare the FDRs to be submitted and engaged on within MBNL and both shareholders.
  • Assess the current and future net-zero landscape to influence and engage the wider business and shareholders to understand gaps that need filling, with a particular focus on Scope 3 emissions.
  • Determine whether the services MBNL is providing complements shareholder requirements.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in sustainability and ensuring the implications for the organisation are understood and communicated and act on significant changes.
  • Provide reports into stakeholders on a regular basis to complement their sustainability requirements and our organisations direct compliance requirements.
  • Provide data, advice, and guidance to the senior leadership team to ensure sustainability considerations are integrated into decision-making across the organisation.
  • Review sustainability related data, metrics, and reports to identify issues and opportunities.
  • Review suppliers' approach to sustainability and address and drive solutions to any issues.

What we are looking for:

  • Proven experience of Net-zero commitments such as the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTI) and associated tools and technologies, including carbon foot-printing, energy management and renewable technologies.
  • A broad understanding of sustainability across the environmental, social, and wider agenda
  • Able to identify best practice and interpret this in the context of the organisation's activities.
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation and regulations is an important pre-requisite.

Nice to have:

  • Relevant reporting frameworks (e.g. Global Reporting Initiative, and Carbon Disclosure Project)
  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools
  • Supply chain sustainability and sustainable procurement.
