This is a key role within our organisation, aimed at supporting women and girls with experiences of trauma or who identify as neurodivergent, while also empowering our whole team with knowledge and practical guidance. The Senior Practitioner will lead in providing trauma and/or neurodivergent awareness training, delivering trauma counselling, and providing expertise and advice to organisational staff and volunteers. This position requires a professional with expertise in trauma and neurodiversity, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for making a difference.

Key Responsibilities

Training and Awareness Raising

  • Develop and deliver training sessions on trauma and neurodiversity for staff and volunteers.
  • Raise awareness and promote understanding of trauma and neurodiversity within the organisation.
  • Create engaging training materials and resources tailored to the needs of various teams.

Trauma Counselling

  • Provide specialist trauma counselling services to adults and young people, including those who may be neurodivergent.
  • Use evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support clients effectively.
  • Maintain confidential and accurate client records in line with organisational and legal requirements.

Advice and Guidance

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, offering advice and guidance to organisational staff on trauma and neurodivergent-related matters.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure that policies and practices are inclusive and trauma-informed.
  • Support the development of strategies to address challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals and those affected by trauma.  

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification in counselling, psychology, or a related field. (Essential)
  • Accreditation or registration with a recognised professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP). (Essential)
  • Training in trauma-informed practice and/or neurodiversity. (Desirable)  

Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in trauma counselling or a related therapeutic field. (Essential)
  • Proven experience working with neurodivergent individuals. (Essential)
  • Experience designing and delivering training or workshops. (Essential)
  • Experience providing advice and support within a multidisciplinary team. (Desirable)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of trauma and its impact, particularly in neurodivergent individuals. (Essential)
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills. (Essential)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (Essential)

Additional Information

This role involves some evening work (we have 3 late night openings to 8pm) to accommodate client needs and staff training. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
