Overall Purpose of Job

Ashbridge Roofing, one of the largest roofing companies in North Lincolnshire and part of the Ongo Group, is expanding into scaffolding. Operating from a busy office in Scunthorpe, we are seeking an experienced Scaffold Manager with a proven track record in managing scaffold teams safely and effectively. This role is initially offered as a 6-month contract, with the potential to become permanent.

The Scaffold Manager's primary responsibility will be to establish and structure our new Scaffolding Team. This includes drafting a comprehensive proposal for the Board of Directors, detailing the personnel, tools, equipment, and vehicles required. Working closely with the General Manager, the Scaffold Manager will lead the recruitment and procurement processes, build the team, and oversee all project management.

At Ashbridge, our Contract Managers take complete ownership of projects from start to finish, overseeing both financial and operational outcomes. This includes planning labour, sourcing materials, and organising logistics for smooth project execution. The Scaffold Manager will also ensure the health and safety of all site operatives. Our business operations platform allows for effective project planning, tracking, and review throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week.

Main Responsibilities

Scaffold Feasibility

  • Expand upon the initial Scaffolding Feasibility proposal for the Board of Directors.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the department's requirements, particularly regarding our first project with a large social housing provider.
  • Obtain detailed quotations for scaffolding, tools, and vehicles.
  • Analyse labour costs and provide regular reports on technical and health and safety requirements for the team.

Contract Management

  • Oversee the full management of awarded contracts, handling day-to-day operational issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all materials are sourced and purchased at the best possible price.
  • Plan and manage resources, including materials, tools, equipment, and staff.
  • Handle contract administration, including preparing and submitting interim valuations, final accounts, and variations, while keeping our internal operations platform updated.
  • Manage subcontractors, including onboarding, invoice approval, and payments.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the General Manager to review project progress, address any challenges, and determine solutions.
  • Support the estimator as needed when pricing new projects or variations.
  • Maintain quality control, ensuring that all Ashbridge work meets our high standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, liaising with Site Managers to plan upcoming work, assess completed tasks, and discuss future programming.
  • Engage with clients, Site Managers, and Quantity Surveyors as required, attending pre-contract, pre-start, progress, and other relevant meetings.
  • Ensure smooth communication across the project team.
  • Collaborate with the Tenant Liaison Officer to maintain positive tenant relationships.
  • Support the Repairs Officer with complex repairs as needed.
  • Oversee all aspects of health and safety for each project, including but not limited to CDM duties, creating and reviewing Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Construction Phase Plans, as well as monitoring and reporting incidents.
  • Remain alert to business development opportunities, identifying potential future projects through on-site discussions and sharing them with the General Manager and Estimator.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Proven experience in Contract/Project Management in scaffolding.
  • Background in the construction industry.
  • Experience in managing or supervising construction personnel.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Full, clean driving license.
  • Full working knowledge of TG:20.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Preferred

  • CDM training for Principal Contractor and/or Principal Designer roles.
  • Experience in roofing or related knowledge.
  • Previous experience setting up scaffolding teams.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience in writing and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Familiarity with preparing and reviewing CDM Construction Phase Plans.
  • Experience in preparing Health and Safety files.
  • Ability to deliver effective toolbox talks.
  • Experience in identifying and passing on potential business development leads.
