The Operations Supervisor accomplishes department objectives and day to day tasks by supervising staff, organizing and monitoring work process.

Main Duties:

  • To ensure that the team have planned and managed all vehicles operating from effectively and profitably.
  • Day to day supervision of the drivers and the office team.
  • Be prepared to step in and cover resourcing issues/ gaps as and when required.
  • Ensure that the jobs allocated to drivers are done so meeting the requirements of the Working Time Directive/driver hours regulation.
  • Monitor Sub Contractors and agencies to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed services while staying within budgetary limits.
  • Be one of the main points of contacts for staff during the shift.
  • Ensure that all jobs are priced and closed off & invoiced when completed.
  • Liaise with Drivers and Customers in relation to delays and possible issues.
  • Updating any relevant spreadsheets to reflect the service standards for our customers.
  • Answer telephone calls and deal with requests being made from internal and external customers.
  • Provide strong leadership, direction and mentoring, thereby fostering and sustaining co-operation and team spirit.
  • To oversee all areas ensuring daily tasks are complete
  • Ensure the team are updating and progressing accordingly.
  • A high level of Customer Care and a strong administrative background is required.
  • Experience of supervising/ managing people.
  • Practical knowledge of Drivers Hours.
  • Knowledge of the Logistics industry.
  • Managing own time, planning and performance on a day to day basis.
  • Promoting company values and creates strong team spirit and loyalty.
  • Developing and maintaining long term working relationships with internal and external customers.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and a fantastic telephone manner are essential.
  • Attention to detail with good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
  • Experience gained within a similar role desirable.
  • This position requires excellent IT skills with an ability to learn new procedures.
  • Implementing new procedures and at times writing them.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Great people skills and management skills, with the ability to influence others.
  • The ability to multi-task and to task manage and prioritise workloads to reflect the requirements of the day.
