Payroll Team Lead

Permanent - Stevenage

We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and motivated Payroll Team Lead to join a well established and successful team supporting the public sector based in Stevenage. The main responsibilities for this role are:

  • Reporting to Payroll & Assistant Payroll Manager to ensure the successful running of the team payroll, providing high quality customer service, ensuring the payrolls are processed correctly and on time.
  • Managing and supervising existing payroll and pension team members.
  • Work with other Team Leaders, Payroll Officers & Pension Officers to ensure that staff are paid accurately and in line with both HMRC legislation and company Policy.
  • Training, coaching, and advising payroll team members about payroll and pension issues.
  • Able to manual calculate complex calculations which include cross tax-year Tax, NI and Pension deductions and refunds.
  • Process payroll runs, supplementary runs and reversals when necessary.
  • Following audit processes to ensure monthly procedures satisfies all internal and external policy and government regulations.
  • Understand and ensure compliance of company terms and conditions, local trust policies and Agenda for Change regulations, for all grades of staff within the company.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources (HR) and accounting teams to build good relationships to ensure the processing of data is accurate and efficient.
  • Undertake Year End Processing including validating and publishing P60's and P11d.
  • Proactively maintain up to date knowledge of HMRC legislation.
  • Oversee the completion of Payovers for HMRC and Third-Party Payments.
  • Maintain and review the overpayments spreadsheet ensuring action is taken to recovery outstanding funds in line with policy.
  • To maintain a timetable to ensure any batch processing is appropriately scheduled. Ensure that payroll reports and output are produced accurately, on time and that any appropriate action is taken.
  • To oversee the correct and effective administration of the Pension Scheme ensuring accurate data is provided using the appropriate forms or via online access to the pension's agency website.
  • Advocate of the Trust vision and mission statement and Trust Values.
  • Undertake Team Briefings.
  • Hiring and training new payroll team members
  • Complete all Core Mandatory Training and Role Essential Training through ENH Academy within the allocated timescales.

Experience and qualifications required

  • Must be an experienced payroll professional
  • Good experience of operating at a senior level, ensuring an excellent service is delivered to both internal and external customers.
  • Good end to end knowledge and experience of a Payroll/HR system implementations is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintaining & producing P11D's/P46 Car's is required.
  • Ability to lead strategic change through promoting and enabling a continuous improvement culture.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience in a public sector environment is preferable
  • Knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability. Able to keep momentum in changing environment.
  • Effective planning and time management, excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to ensure standards are met.
  • Problem solving, numeracy skills, customer service focus.
